Planning the Perfect Vacation (Mini Series)

This will be another mini-series and I will share my experience and tips that I found useful when planning my upcoming vacation. Everyone in life can benefit from travelling and relaxing. Although it takes some time and research; it is well worth it!

So you’ve decided that it’s time to take a break from the old 9 to 5 grind. To you, I say good for you! It’s definitely important to take care of yourself while striving towards a work-life balance and allowing yourself to live a little.

There are a few steps that are key to the vacation planning process.

Choose Your Destination

It’s good to choose 3 to 4 places you would like to travel to. The world is such a beautiful place so geographically it depends on what you want to get out your trip. My husband and I wanted to go somewhere hot and sandy so we narrowed it down to Mexico, Cuba and Dominican Republic. Choosing your perfect vacation spot comes down to recommendations from friends and family,

Set a Budget (and Stick to It)

Generally sites and travel companies offer packages that include the flight, meals, drinks and transfers. It is very important to set a budget and not go overboard. You should have a general idea of how much you want to spend per person. The most popular package is the all-inclusive which includes flights, transfers, meals and drinks; the best bang for your buck. It helps to choose up to a maximum of 4 different websites or sources to make your comparisons, anything more than that becomes overwhelming.

Decide Travel Time

So you have a few destinations in mind and a budget. Next, decide when you would like to take the trip. Obviously there are months where travel rates are cheaper than others but it is up to you. Generally for hot countries, peak travel times are from Mid December to Mid-March when most children will be on their break. It is a good idea to start looking for tickets a few months in advance as prices fluctuate daily. It was somewhat stressful watching the great differences in prices only to feel a constant need to check other sites. 

How many days would you like to travel for? How much time off can you take from work? .Will you be travelling with/without children? Are you travelling in a large group or just as a couple?These are all helpful when determining the realistic length of your vacation.

Do Your Research

My husband and I decided to go to Cuba for 7 days. At first I was extremely against travelling to any hot, sunny destinations because of the zika virus especially since I had an early miscarriage a few months ago. However, after much thought and the likelihood of infection I decided that it’s now or never. So with that we are taking precautions to protect ourselves from the bugs and critters we may encounter.

Gratitude Challenge

The best attitude to have towards anything in life is gratitude…

When you are grateful, you are in a blessed state of mind. So to start the new year, I committed to having an attitude of gratitude each day of the month. Whether it be to thank God or the Universe, there is ALWAYS something to be grateful for.

January 1, 2017: I am thankful that I am alive. It is such an amazing time to be alive. I vow to live more and take life more seriously.

January 2, 2017: I am grateful for friends and family. Without my friends and family I would not be where I am today. The constant push that I get from them is incredibly motivating.

January 3, 2017: I am grateful that I have a roof over my head. I am currently living with my in-laws with my husband. There is not a day that goes by that I am not thankful that I have such a great relationship with each person in our household.

January 4, 2017: I am so thankful today for a speedy recovery after my miscarriage; my body is healing and it shows.

January 5, 2017: I am honoured to be able to enjoy the comfort of being able to take charge of my life and to learn from my mistakes.

January 6, 2017: Today I am just so happy and blessed that I am close with my family and cousins; what a great time we had tonight.

January 7, 2017: Thank you for my family’s health; I know that health is never to be taken for granted.

January 8, 2017: Thank you for opening up my eyes, I truly felt your grace today. Your message at church was so relevant to my life, I felt as if you were speaking to me directly.

January 9, 2017: Thank you for my older sister; there are so many lessons that I have learned from her.

January 10, 2017: Thank you for allowing my husband and I to celebrate today; I can’t believe it’s already been 4 months.

January 11, 2017: Thank you for the magnificent man I get to call my husband. I am so lucky to have met him and to be married to him. He truly pushes me to be a better person and I am so appreciative of his honesty (as harsh as it may be at times).

January 12, 2017: Thank you for all the dogs in my life, Each one of you bring me so much joy and always put a smile on my face with your weird behaviours.

January 13, 2017: Thank you for guiding me to some new apps to keep my health and fitness in check….also thank you for technology.

January 14, 2017: Thank you for showing me a glimpse into my passion. It’s days like this I love.

January 15, 2017: Thank you for allowing me to receive ample blessings from the Evangelist today. I look forward to what you have in store for me.

January 16, 2017: Today I feel blessed that I am able to trust those around me and truly value each of their opinions.

January 17, 2017: Thank you for the boost of confidence I received today; every bit is helpful in regaining my confidence.

January 18, 2017: Thank you for putting the right people in my life. I really appreciate the path you have set up for me.

January 19, 2017: Thank you for allowing me to help others; it gives me such joy when I can make a difference in someone’s life.

January 20, 2017: Thank you for reshaping me and never giving up on me. I strive for consistent and meaningful improvements in my life.

January 21, 2017: Thank you for lessening my fears today. I am so grateful for all the lessons you have taught me. I am slowly beginning to have faith in myself again.

January 22, 2017: Thank you for giving me the strength to improve and for showing me that failure is part of success.

January 23, 2017: Today I walked a lot and though my feet hurt I am so blessed for my body and the ability to walk and run.

January 24, 2017: Today I share the joy and happiness of my newly engaged BFF! Thank you for sending her someone who is truly meant for her and makes her so happy.

January 25, 2017: Today I slept in and it felt great. Thank you for letting me rest today.

January 26, 2017: Today I  went to dinner with two of my girlfriends. Thank you for sending me such dear friends to share this journey of life with me.

January 27, 2017: Thank you for allowing me to be so productive today. I feel motivated when I make progress.

January 28, 2017: Thank you for the extra me time today. I was able to read my book in peace and it was very relaxing.

January 29, 2017: I am so grateful for the health of my family and friends. Thank you for taking such good care of my loved ones.

January 30, 2017: Thank you for the gift to learn. I know what I need to do and will begin to apply self-discipline and ultimately master it.

January 31, 2017: Thank you so much for allowing our closing to go smoothly. We move into our new place very soon and are very excited!

Thank you God for all of these sweet and unbelievably precious blessings.
